SANSKAR- a word that significes knowing, understanding, imbibing and practising all that is good in life and trying to come as near the idea as possbile. . "SANSKAR" is the tale of a modern girl- Nirupa, the only daughter of Jagmohandas - a straight forward honest businessman who was now-a-days seeing bad times. She possessed high educational qualifications and was reared up in good family atmosphere. Armed with education and culture she was able to fight battle life single-handed. . Nirupa was betrothed to Kishen - son of Ramprasad- a prosperous businessman and also an intimate friend of Jagmohandas. . Ramprasads health was failing and he entrusted the management of his business to Kishen. He placed him under the care of his Munim, a sly person who took good care to see that Kishen came under his thumb. With this end in view, he introduced Kishen to a beautiful young charmer, Bansari. Kishen, simple by nature and inexperienced in the ways of the world, believed the professions of love that Bansari made. . In order to keep up the promise he had given to Bansari (who professed great disappointment in not being able to marry Kishen) Kishen took Nirupa to Bansaris place for dinner on the marriage day. The watchful eyes of Nirupa could see which way the wind was blowing. She made a mental decision to win over her husband from the wily snares of Bansari. . She served him willingly, intently and suffered neekly. The only solace that comforted her was the silver lining that used to flash once in a while amongst the dark clouds that surrounded her. . Her efforts began to have effect. Kishen began slowly understand what sterling qualities she possessed. He decided to turn over a new leaf a decision which wily Bansari and calculating Munim slowly undermined. . Nirupa felt the vision of happiness was fading away. Her determinations began to waver; but the innate culture in her rose to the occasion, drawing inspiration from unflinching love of Sita, sacrifice of Savitri, devotion, of Meera and stern determination of Draupadi. . True to the traditions of an Indian wife, she shielded her husbands weakness. Ramprasad, who was much favourably impressed by her devoted service to home, was ignorant of his sons misdemenors. . Feeling that Kishen was slipping from her hands, Bansari staged a scene of drinking poison. The ruse succeeded and Kishen was caught tight in the net spread out by Bansari and Ram Bharosey. In order to tighten the hold more firmly the wily Munim Ram Bharosey led him on the downward path of gambling, drinking and speculation. This led to heavy inroads on companys finance and Kishens incurring heavy debts. . Rampasad had complete trust in Nirupa. He gave her Rupees Ten Thousand to be kept in custody. Munim Ram Bharosey came to know of this. He induced Kishen to steal the money and jewelery. This would, according to him, enable Kishen to go out of town with Bansari and also to escape from the inceasent demands of the creditors. . As fate would have it, Ramprasad asked Nirupa for the money. When she opened the safe she found the money and jewellery gone. She was on the horns of a dilemma. Screening her husband would be endangering her honour: She found herself in a mental torture. Just then her father arrived there. He scolded her in no uncertain terms. . She found herself helpless, in a quandry. Father-in-law had lost faith in her-father had denounced her-mother-in-law had branded her as theif and husband had deserted her. . What she to do? Did she come out unsnatched and pure out of this ordeal? Did her education and cultural bearings help her out of this scrape?
